Cocoa Sustainability
For over 30 years Mars has supported cocoa sustainability.
As the makers of some of the world's most-loved confectionery products, we are a major user of cocoa. The values by which we operate inspire us to seek the most responsible methods of cocoa production whereby the entire supply chain shares mutual benefit from the harvesting of this unique and fragile crop.

Cocoa sustainability is a holistic set of activities designed to ensure future supplies of cocoa, and a responsible approach to its production, so that the community and environment in which it is produced can thrive. Our programmes span economic, environmental and social dimensions and are often run as public-private partnerships in conjunction with other industry partners through the World Cocoa Foundation, with donor agencies such as the US Agency for International Development (USAID), and with other third party groups such as Winrock International.

In 2009 we announced that GALAXY will be the first Mars chocolate brand to be Rainforest Alliance certified by 2010. That's 160 million bars of chocolate bars a year. Rainforest Alliance certification will make a positive difference. We aim to improve the livelihood of farmers and their communities, protect the environment and wildlife around them.

We have further committed to certifying our entire cocoa supply as sustainably sourced by 2020.
